DO’s and DONT’s for self-lymphatic drainage

Lymphatic drainage is buzzing around, becoming more known and utilised in our self-care routines.
But that also means there’s a lot of misinformation and incorrect methods

Below are some tips to make sure you’re reaping all the benefits from lymphatic drainage

DO:

  • Start above and below your collarbones where the lymph fluid drains into your subclavian vein, and work your way down the body.
You must clear the pathway for everything below to drain up into the veins.

  • Perform lymph drainage before exercise to optimise your circulation for a better workout.
    Afterwards will help with recovery.

  • Start slow and work your way toward longer lymphatic drainage treatments (expect to feel tired or run down the next day).

  • Be consistent. It takes time to make change.

  • Drink plenty of water to help the lymphatic system flush everything out.

DONT:

  • Don’t believe dry brushing is effective. It is surface level and your hands do a much better job.

  • Don’t perform lymph drainage while you have detox symptoms - wait until you’re better to continue.

  • Don’t use a vibration plate, rebound or use a leg pump WITHOUT working on your main lymph nodes FIRST. These tools will be much more effective and your body will thank you for it.

  • Don’t press too hard, it should not be painful.

  • Don’t work through only the legs or one body part that is lower than your neck. Always work through everything above first for better full body drainage.
